Veteran’s Day, originally known as Armistice Day, began in 1919 to commemorate the end of World War I. In 1953, Alvin J. King proposed to recognize veterans from all wars. Honoring every single soldier who fought for our freedom and safety. This day is not just to appreciate those who fought for us but for their families, who had to endure the pain of being separated and worried for our veterans. Why the 11th? This day is the exact anniversary in which World War I ended.
On November 14th, Parkdale High hosted a special event honoring our veterans. Saluting those who survived and sadly lost their lives saving ours. Many people came together to celebrate this victory day including veterans, a part of Parkdale staff, police officers, our principal, and some of our military members.
“I think our veterans would be proud of our ceremony. We did something to appreciate our veterans for serving our country.” explained, XO, Alexander Osorio
JROTC members explained how they felt they needed to show their appreciation to our veterans, due to the lack our society gives them.
Thanks to an insider, it was brought to our attention that the members of JROTC were practicing constantly to maintain this celebration perfectly.
“We would practice twice a week, especially since it was getting closer.” said the insider
On this chaotic day, everyone was nervously trying to be perfect. Company commanders, trying to place everyone in the right spot, While staff was trying to make sure everyone including them were perfect. As well as our amazing Battalion commander, she was trying to keep order and maintain her ending speech for her battalion.
“ I think they did pretty good despite the weather we had to face that day. I am extremely proud of my battalion!” said Battalion Commander, Rachael Nzeni.
As well XO completely agreed with Rachael, explaining how he believes that they also did an outstanding job being disciplined, quiet and respectful during this ceremony. Although he still believes there’s always room for improvement.
“I honestly feel relieved that I didn’t mess it up.”explained, Battalion Commander
Although veterans should definitely be appreciated everyday for their service, it is sure a special celebration for every single one of them, does not matter how big or small their achievements were, just knowing and understanding how they chose to put their life on the line for us is the most selfless thing and noble thing they can do.
“ Thank you for your service!” said , Battalion commander
“ To all the veterans around the world, thank you for your sacrifice to your nation. You all had a reason for serving no matter how big or small.” said XO.
And for that we say….
Thank you to our veterans around the world. We are honored to be protected by our military. Your dedication and sacrifice do not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful for the freedom and safety you provide us. Your commitment touches our heart and inspires us for greater success.
