On Jan. 5, a 14-year-old boy was shot and critically injured due to an incident in Hyattsville that occurred over a Moose Knuckles Jacket.
According to WTOP News Hyattsville Police Chief Jarod Towers stated that before the incident occurred the 14-year-old was walking with two other young teens in a neighborhood in the 3500 block of Carnaby Street around noon when they got approached by three other young teens.
Following up to what was said, Towers mentioned that the 14 year old was singled out by the group of friends then they tried to take his jacket which was identified as a Moose Knuckles jacket. But the teenager refused which led to a fight. During that fight, one of the teens who had tried to take the jacket pulled out a handgun and shot the 14 year old, hitting him once.
The teen was later taken to the hospital then his condition was described as ¨critical but stable¨.
Additionally, Towers said that the three teens who had attempted to take the jacket ran off into a construction zone near the scene of the shooting. But what they had was identified.
“One of them was wearing a black puffy jacket, another was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and the third man was wearing a blue jacket,” according to police.
The incident occurred around Northwestern High School, the school was placed on lockdown during the clearing of the scene. The lockdown was later lifted.
Towers could not confirm whether any of the individuals involved were students of the school.
This is not the first time something like this happened. Dating back to the Jan. 2–just two days prior, a man was robbed of a pricey Canada Goose Jacket at gunpoint in DC.
The owner of an expensive Canada Goose Jacket was the target of a New Year day armed robbery in Northwest DC.
Officers showed up to the area of 400 T Street NW at around 4:20 pm for the report of an armed robbery.
The man told the police that one robber approached him from behind and pointed a rifle at his back, while another individual, who was armed, got out of a dark gray vehicle. The man also mentioned that the vehicle was tinted then he was demanded to hand over his belongings. He did so then the robber sped off in the vehicle, heading east on T street ̈ according to the police.
The man also mentioned to the police that during the robbery, the person behind him fired their rifle at someone across the street, striking someone’s bedroom window.
Multiple witnesses heard gunshots and saw the dark gray vehicle driving away from the scene, “but no injuries were reported,” said police
According to a police report, the man’s jacket that was stolen during the robbery which was valued at $900, but some Canada Goose jackets can cost up to $1,600 and even more than that. The price range of the Canada Goose Jacket and the Moose Knuckles Jacket makes them a target for thieves.
Apparently, people being robbed of pricey Canada Goose jackets and other expensive items is not a new thing.
According to Wtopnews, a warning was sent out for Canada Goose Jacket owners in DC due to the increase of robberies over a year ago on Feb. 15, 2023.
It talks about the incidents that occurred which included people wearing the Canada Goose Jackets or Moose Knuckles Jackets.
According to the article, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) mentioned that “there is no information to suggest an uptick in thieves targeting people wearing Canada Goose jackets in Washington, D.C.”
MPD also added that “Canada Goose jackets are sometimes highly sought after by thieves; a similar string of thefts and assaults happened in Chicago in 2019.”
