Everyday that goes by is another day Palestinians are kept from freedom, equality, and tranquility. What once was a heavily populated enclave is now a blood spilled battleground for those who are forced to stay in the Gaza strip.
As the war continues, Palestinians are left without a place they would call home. The state of Palestine economy is predicted to receive a vast toll due to the aftermath effects of this ongoing war. When questioned about the long term effects of the Palestinian financial state, the United Nation voiced, “Poverty is expected to rise sharply, between 20 and 45 percent depending on the duration of the war.”
The Israeli government is pursuing starvation of civilians as a tactic of warfare. Israeli forces are blocking the distribution of water, food and fuel in the Gaza strip. The Human Rights Watch outlined, “1.2 million of Gaza’s 2.2 million people were estimated to be facing acute food insecurity, and over 80 percent were reliant on humanitarian aid.”
A report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) states, “If the current military operation were to end immediately with reconstruction starting right away, it would take Gaza until 2092 just to restore the GDP levels of 2022.”
How has this affected the civilians of Palestine?
A report by Save the Children revealed the following:
- 370 schools in Gaza damaged or destroyed [UNICEF]
- 94 hospitals and healthcare facilities in Gaza attacked [WHO]
- More than 1,000 Palestinian children lost one or both legs [UNICEF]
- Around 1.1 million children – the entire child population in Gaza – denied access to adequate humanitarian assistance
- Abductions of children in Israel and 33 Israeli children killed [OCHA via Israeli authorities]
Great quantities of Palestinian left in Gaza territory are children who were torn from their family, left to fend for their lives. Many die due to the harsh environment they undergo, when cross-examined about these conditions the Ministry of Health in Gaza voiced, “Children in Gaza surviving the violence are enduring unspeakable horrors, including life-changing injuries, burns, disease, inadequate medical care, and losing their parents and other loved ones.”
Palestinians everyday vocalize hope into their ongoing world of terror, fellow Palestinian expressed, “The world saw
Palestinians get killed and displaced, saw children dying from cold weather, saw fathers holding the limbs of their children, etc.” Instagram user @byplestia sign
aled distress to society, “ What more does the world want to see so this genocide will stop?? We demand a ceasefire!!”
Everyday that passes is another day of genocide, another day Palestinians are kept captive from freedom. While we sleep in peace, Palestinian crave in hopes of seeing tomorrow. This is only the beginning for what’s to come next in the ongoing war.
