Honoring monumental women during Women’s History Month

In commemoration of Women’s History Month during the month of March, we are highlighting five modern-day women who have helped shape our world. Take a look at this list, ranging from First Ladies to actresses, to learn more about what they have done for our world.

Michelle Obama

One of the women that have had a big impact on our society and modern life is former First Lady Michelle Obama. She was the first Black woman to hold the position of First Lady of the United States, inspiring many women and many people. From the moment she became the First Lady, many women call her a role model. During her time in the position, she advocated for health, wellbeing, and education in the U.S. As the First Lady, Mrs. Obama helped many people and also advocated for poverty awareness. Along with this, she also supported many americans designers and she was considered one of the most popular fashion icons.

As first lady, Michelle Obama initiated Let’s Move! a program aiming to end childhood obesity within a generation.

Melinda Gates

Melinda Gates is a philanthropist, business woman and global advocate for women and girls. She has become one of the most powerful women in the world due to her effort to support areas of society that the government has not given too much attention to. She decided to intervene on it and make a change for herself since no one was willing to do so. Additionally, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation work to help all people lead healthy, productive lives, improving people’s health and giving them a chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.

“All women, everywhere, have the same hopes,” Mrs. Gates once said. “We want to be self-sufficient and create better lives for ourselves and our loved ones.”

Ann Daniels

Ann Daniels is a British polar explorer and motivational speaker. She was the first woman in history to reach the North and South poles. She always does what she wants to do. She’s a strong and independent woman who doesn’t let anyone lead her.

‘’You are good enough,” Ms. Daniels once said. “Don’t let anybody else take away your self-worth. You are good enough.”

Emma Watson

Emma Watson is a British actor and activist. She first came to the public’s attention playing Hermione Granger in the film adaptations of Harry Potter. She has become an icon since she has supported climate campaigns and gender equality issues. She has also worked to promote fair trade and organic clothing and served as an ambassador for Camfed International, a movement to educate girls in rural Africa.

Sheryl Sandberg


​Sheryl Kara Sandberg is an American business executive, billionaire and philanthropist who helped create Facebook and helped the app to grow. In 2012, she was inducted into the list of the Most Influential in the World.

“Taking initiative pays off,” Mrs. Sandberg once said. “It is hard to visualize someone as a leader if she is always waiting to be told what to do.”
